RATIONALE - Funding Your Own Car
Company cars are no longer the perk they once were due to rising taxation. From April 2002, the tax burden has been rising steadily. The company car therefore may not be the best option for all employees. Employees transferring from company cars to funding their own vehicles can receive revenue from three sources:
  • icon Income tax savings
  • icon Tax-free business mileage allowances
  • icon Taxable salary car allowance

MAINTENANCE
One of the unpredictable aspects of running a car is servicing and maintenance expenditure. A comprehensive manufacturer’s maintenance package can be arranged for your chosen car.

The services are carried out at any main franchise in the UK, courtesy cars are arranged locally as some drivers do not require a courtesy car, approval is authorized, the work is carried out and the driver signs for the work and drives away, the cost is all covered by the maintenance agreement.

Contract maintenance allows drivers to spread the cost of maintaining the vehicle over the contract period through regular fixed monthly payments. The maintenance package includes servicing, maintenance, replacement tyres, batteries and exhausts, road fund licence, road side rescue, MOT, and extended warranties where drivers exceed the manufacturer’s standard warranty for the life of the contract.

This facility is particularly attractive to ex-company car drivers, who are familiar with the benefits of a "hassle-free" - fully maintained car.
ROAD TAX (RFL - Road Fund Licence)
With new vehicles, the Road Fund Licence for the first year is included. However, dependent on the financing method you choose the RFL to be included for subsequent years of your agreement.
MOTOR INSURANCE
Using a car for business travel does expose drivers to additional risk, if only because of higher miles travelled. Most insurance policies only cover domestic and social use, some of the additional issues that will need to be covered are:
  • Comprehensive
  • Business Use Class 1 (Owner-driver)
  • Business Use Class 2 (Any other driver) - optional
  • Samples, Tools and Goods (if not covered by your employer)
  • New for Old Cover
  • Social & Domestic Use
  • Carriage of Passengers (Not fare paying)
  • Replacement Car
  • 12 points plus
  • Foreign use cover
NO CLAIMS BONUS
It is recognised that many company car drivers may not have their own car insurance policy and No Claims Bonus. As a member of a properly designed company car allowance scheme, your employer can arrange for you to be given a letter confirming your driver history for the last two-five years, which should secure you a level of No Claims Bonus discount. In addition, by using one of Leasing Options Fleet Management approved insurance brokers, you may be able to enjoy the benefit of corporate insurance rates, at least for the first year.
EARLY TERMINATION COVER
Drivers have the option to take out cover on their monthly finance payments. This can include cover for redundancy, resignation, sickness, disability or accident. Cover can also extend to pregnancy. Details are available on request from Leasing Options Fleet Management.
